Douglass made a guttural grunting noise deep in his throat, his dewlap waved in the breeze. He brought his soft, fatty nose over a small plant and uprooted it, gnawing greedily. He swallows, thick saliva gooping down the sides of his mouth. Oh, dear Mother, how I wish you were here!He looks plaintively at the sky and and belches grotesquely. "I love you Mama, I promise to live long and prosper and live on the dream of growing fat and old, I will one day be great, I will thrive!"

Nootau stood just behind Snowcap, and they ran endlessly for about an hour, driven by instinct and the secure feeling of family.
"I smell it, is it time to split up?"
Nootau's tail wagged frenziedly, his ears pulled forward to full attention.

Anthoro stood behind the others, as he caught the scent of the moose. His body was tense, ready to rush into postition on command. He looked around at the others, all his senses alert for any change.

Snowcap nodded. It was time to surround the unsuspecting animal. He gathered the pack together in a tight circle to give them instructions.
"Anthoro and Inaya, cut a wide circle to the west and come around to head south so the moose can't go north.
"Tsuki and Kanti, head north until you can see the moose, so it has no escape to the south. Remain hidden and silent.
"Nootau, go with Anthoro and Inaya, but cut across sooner, so you are cutting him off from the west.
"I will travel east before turning in to finish the circle. You will strike on my command. Be alert and ready at all times; he could sprint in any direction. Watch his hooves. They will crush your skull with a single kick."
Snowcap growled with excitement. It had been ages since his last group-hunt. He would make sure that they would be successful.
"Let's go!" he whispered, and disappeared into the woods, heading in a wide, eastern curve.

Kanti stood with her new pack ready for her first proper hunt. Like many of the others, she had not eaten in a while and the thought of food caused her to lick her lips with anticipation, but at the same time she knew she needed to be careful, one false move in this hunt could cause the pack their meal. She listened to Snowcap's instructions and wagged her tail as he announced her part. Her head turned to face Tsuki, the she wolf that would be her partner for this hunt. At Snowcap's last words, Kanti leapt forwards, looking over her shoulder to see if Tsuki was following.

Tsuki wagged her tail at Snowcap to show that she understood his instructions and raced after Kanti. The thrill of the hunt had given her extra energy as she sped up and caught up with Kanti. They didnt talk for they both knew their duties to the pack and worked in perfect union. It wasnt long until they could smell the moose not that far up ahead. Tsuki caught Kanti's eye and they both slowed down and started to stalk the moose downwind a few feet behind it. Tsuki hoped the others would get here soon. Her muzzles started to tense and it was all she could do to stop sinking her jaws into the Moose's flesh.

As Snowcap neared his position, he tested the air, wondering if the wolves had taken their posts yet. The two she-wolves had done well, lying in wait just south of the yearling. He couldn't smell Nootau or the other pair of wolves yet, Inaya and Anthoro. He guessed that they were on their way, taking longer to circle around towards the moose from the north.
The white wolf lay in wait behind a patch of ferns, silent and alert, ready for the moose's every move.

Douglass murred softly, sensing something moving near the underbrush. His little eyes don't give him very good vision, but he decides to be wary. It's probably just a badger, anyway. He grunts and steps forward to wrap his wrinkled mouth around a leafy tree branch, crushing the leaves with his strong molars. He tastes some bird excrement on one of the leaves and groans, but knows it's probably nutritious.

Kanti lay in wait with Tsuki close by. She was dead still, hardly daring to breath as she watched the moose munch at the leaves and twigs. Kanti was ready to attack, and her eyes watched the mooses every movement. She had now caught the scent of Nootau and Snowcap so knew that the ambush plan must be going as planned. Kanti lowered her head slowly and silently, so that her head was laying on the ground just like the rest of her body. She was ready to attack.

Inaya rounded back with Anthoro, getting closer and hunching down as they took position. The scent of the great beast was magnificent. Inaya watched the moose intenty, not letting her sight off of it. She was ready for the attack.

Tsuki stayed low and waited for Snowcap to attack first. She flexed her claws. The smell was almost too much for her. But she wouldnt disobey Snowcap. Shed do exactly what he said and wait. She hoped it wouldnt be too long though.

They're ready... thought Snowcap when he sensed his pack's positions. From his group of ferns he thought for a second, making last-minute adjustments to his plan of attack. He had seen the Moose's visible wariness, though he kept eating leaves. Snowcap did worry that he would escape, even though this ambush was near fool-proof.
Concluding his thoughts, the large male tuned into his instinctual mind, his eyes darkening until they were a deep, amber gold. He crouched, hindquarters bunched beneath him, ready for a sprint across the small clearing towards the moose.
With a deep breath, Snowcap lunged into the clearing, closing the distance to the moose in seconds. As he left the ferns, he gave a short bark to alert his pack. When Snowcap was two meters away from the moose, he leapt towards the yearling's exposed neck with his maw wide open and fangs bared. As his teeth struck the moose, Snowcap clamped down, feeling the soft skin between his jaws and the trickle of blood down his chin.

Douglass felt a weight pulling on the folds of fat on his neck- his traechea had been missed by about half a millimeter. "RRRHHHHHHNNNNNGGG!!! I AM SUPERIOR, WOLF! I WILL PROSPER! I WILL PROSPERRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!" He grunted and shook about madly, in such an uproar he defecated on the spot, though he took no notice. The pain struck him a few seconds after the fangs made contact- the delayed pain was great, shooting from his neck to the rest of his body. "MOTHER HELP!!!" He grunted to the sky, knowing she was dead, but wishing he had the protection of her warm flank again, wishing to hear her beautigul, gutteral roar once again. Douglass ran around in circles, bucking his rear legs, then tries to run to the South, where he hadn't yet seen Tsuki and Kanti.

Snowcap felt the Moose's surprised struggle, and fought to hold onto the neck when the yearling went berserk. The moose's kicks, circles, and bolts were too much for the white wolf. He tore off the bit of neck he had and landed on his feet safely on the forest floor, dissapointed that he had missed the main arteries. He spat out the bit of skin, somewhat miffed. He shook himself quickly, then sprinted after the moose, barking urgently to Kanti and Tsuki.
I hope that the other three will be here soon, he thought, running beside the large yearling.
